Folliculitis is a painful inflammation or infection of the hair producing follicles in the skin. The symptoms include redness and itching. Boils or carbuncles may form if the infection does not clear up quickly. The cause is usually a staph infection, but there are other causes. Also you will learn How to Get Rid of and Prevent Hair Follicle Infection.

Causes of Folliculitis

The fungus that causes athlete’s foot can infect the follicles. This is usually seen on shaved areas and is sometimes referred to as “barber’s itch”.

Bacteria called Pseudomonas aeruginosa can live in hot tubs if they are not properly cleaned. The follicles of the legs, hips and buttocks can become infected with the bacteria, especially if clothing is worn while bathing. The clothing traps the bacteria against the skin.

Ingrown hairs can cause the inflammation. This occurs most often in people with curly hair. The hairs curl inward, causing irritation and inflammation. Antibiotics such as those used to treat acne can cause an imbalance in the natural skin flora, leading to infection. The herpes simplex virus can also infect the follicles. Exposure to petroleum based oils at work can cause the problem. Makeup and other skincare products containing petrolatum or mineral oil may be to blame for the condition.

Treatments for Folliculitis

Doctors sometimes prescribe antibiotics, but if the cause is not bacterial, the drugs can actually make the problem worse. For example, if the infection is caused by a fungus, bacteria actually help to keep the fungus under control. By killing the bacteria, the antibiotics allow the fungus to grow and thrive.

It can be difficult to determine what has caused the infection. So, the best treatment is a topical lotion. I recommend an Active Body lotion for the treatment and prevention of folliculitis.

Why an Active Body Lotion Will Work

The lotion will only work if it contains the right ingredients. If it contains the wrong ingredients, (mineral oil for example) it will make the problem worse. A good brand contains no petroleum-based oils. Nor does it contain ingredients that could clog the follicles or trap pathogens in the pores.

It does contain active manuka honey, Functional Keratin, jojoba oil and grape seed oil.

What are the Benefits of Those Ingredients?

Active manuka honey has natural antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant activity. It supports the strength of your immune system, making it easier for you to fight off infections.

The benefits: Your folliculitis will heal faster. By using the body lotion every day, you will have fewer infections in the future.

Functional Keratin has natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity. It moisturizes without causing greasiness.

The benefits: Your symptoms will improve quickly. You will have less redness, pain and itching. Jojoba oil softens and soothes skin. It is used to fade stretch marks and scars.

The benefits: You have a reduced risk of scarring.

Grape seed oil improves circulation and promotes healing. It dries to an invisible lightweight film that helps protect the follicles from future damage.

The benefits: The condition will heal even faster and your risk of future folliculitis in the future is even further reduced.
