It’s almost impossible to have a lifelong career as an Olympic athlete. Human bodies don’t hold up to that kind of demand, and in many cases, the pay for being an athlete isn’t enough to support a full life.
So it’s no surprise that Olympic athletes who became famous on the world stage ended up in other jobs later in life. What sometimes is surprising is what exactly those jobs are.
Pete Fenson went from the USA’s first curling medalist to the owner of Dave’s Pizza, runner Lanni Marchant became an accomplished lawyer, and gymnast Alex Naddour splits his time between teaching gymnastics and selling real estate – and they’re not the only Olympic athletes who turned to very different careers.
