Director’s Choice presents historic readings from the University of Arizona Poetry Center’s extensive audiovisual archive Voca, as selected by past and present leadership of the Center, including Gail Browne, Alison Hawthorne Deming, Tyler Meier, and Frances Sjoberg.
This reading from poet Ross Gay was originally given four years ago to the day on January 19, 2017, on the eve of the inauguration of the current president. The reading is exclusively from Gay’s singular collection Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award and was a finalist for the National Book Award. In a reading charged with the energy of the adjacent inauguration, Gay reads poems that mix the ecstatic with the elegaic, including the eponymous long poem “Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude.”
