Depression is more prevalent in Black men than anyone is willing to talk about. Suicide is the third leading cause of death for Black men ages 13 to 25, and things don’t seem to be getting better. And the reason for this? Silence. Black men aren’t encouraged to share their feelings of depression, isolation, or fear. This leads to substance abuse, anger problems, and suicide.
As always I use my experience this past year in therapy to encourage more Black men to seek mental health treatment.
