Origins of Cinnamon Cinnamon is a spice that is found in the bark of certain species of trees within the Cinnamomum genus. There are different varieties of cinnamon native to different countries, such as Cinnamomum Cassia which is native to China, and Cinnamomum Verum which is native to Sri Lanka. Cinnamon is mainly used as an aromatic spice in cooking, including both sweet and savoury dishes. The use of cinnamon dates back thousands of years. Traditionally, it was used in Chinese and Egyptian medicine and by medieval physicians to treat coughing and sore throats and as a digestive aid. Historically, cinnamon was desirable and prized for its strong aroma and its use as a flavouring in food, becoming a rare and expensive condiment. The main component of cinnamon is cinnamaldehyde, which is the essential oil that is responsible for the flavour and aroma of cinnamon. One to two tablets are taken per day, preferably with meals, and we offer different packet sizes making it easy to meet your nutritional needs.
