Please don’t criticize here because on this post, I WILL return that energy. #mamabear Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way. Meet my son, Q! He’s 24 with autism and a language disorder. I’m so excited for him to attend his very first after hours work event. But I won’t lie, I’m nervous. The company he works for is very inclusive and he’s had a great experience since he started one year ago as a full-time production technician. My son has come so far from being nonverbal to echolalia to functional communication (most of the time) but despite his challenges, he’s a winner! As a part of his life plan WE (I had to help) had a goal for full-time employment and building relationships to name a few. The full-time employment part, he has mastered. He’s the best employee anyone will ever find. The relationship part is still a working progress, but he has made so much progress. Because there was a point in his life when he was just in his own world. Moms, he’s taking applications if you have a nice daughter. (lol) In any event, despite his autism, he is as confident as they come. And I’m so excited to watch him not only attend this event, but to be able to drive himself there. We have put in so much work to get him where he is today and we will put in as much work as is needed to get him to meet all of his goals. Purchasing a condo is next on his list. He has taught me how to be resilient. How to live fearlessly. How to adapt. And so much more. Not because he’s my son, but he is truly an amazing young man. #autism #autismmom #independence #fearlessparenting
