In light of new policy changes by Israel’s Ministry of Health, the socialized medicine system will now include voice therapy for transgender women and men among other medical and paramedical services for this population. Last year, the Jerusalem Open House hosted the city’s first Voice Feminization course for transgender women. Rabbi Mike Moskowitz will be in conversation with speech language pathologist Sharon Ron who ran the group, as well as a participant from the group, Ilana Gurevich, a student of Linguistics and the Hebrew language, and LGBTQIA activist in Jerusalem.

Sharon Ron is a speech language pathologist and director of Maytav: Jerusalem Center for Speech and Swallowing Disorders. She teaches a variety of courses in 3 colleges and universities at the BA and MA level and last year she taught Jerusalem’s very first Voice Feminization course to a group of transgender women at the Jerusalem Open House.

Ilana Gurevich is a transgender BA student at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, majoring in Linguistics and the Hebrew language. She is a local LGBTQIA activist in Jerusalem and attended last year’s first Voice Feminization course at the Jerusalem Open House.
