Today, mental health is exacerbated by the everyday problems we face that are rooted in values imposed on us by capitalism: ideas of success + wellbeing, relations to labor, hyperfocus on the individual and expected self-reliance in addressing one’s own needs. These larger systems under capitalism avoid addressing the societal problems that are at the root of many mental health struggles. This workshop serves to give an alternative framework in navigating mental health by combining grassroots community approaches (operating under an anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist framework) while fighting for the redirection of resources to improve our current mental health system.
