Do robots have a gender? Can Dungeons and Dragons help you unlock your own backstory? Transgender people don’t always feel at home where they grew up, or even in their own bodies. But some have used games to make peace with family, with friends, and with gender. Games create social spaces where imagination is encouraged rather than eyed with suspicion, where players can tinker with the rules of feminine and masculine, and where players can test-drive identities with less risk than going out in public.
