Canada has finished off the podium in the last three Olympic curling events, after the country’s teams earned medals in the first 11 competitions at the Winter Games, dating back to 1998.

It’s not easy for many Canadian curling fans to wrap their heads around that harsh reality.

But as the men’s and women’s curling events get under way at the Ice Cube in Beijing this week, Canadian skip Brad Gushue was offering some words to temper the anxiety that is rapidly rising on home soil.

“I don’t think the program is struggling at all,” Gushue said after his team from St. John’s, N.L., practised for the first time on the Olympic ice Wednesday.
