The Bodi-Tek SAD Light has been developed to help Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a condition which can affect all ages, men and women alike. Symptoms vary, and are often referred to as the “winter blues”. The lack of natural light at any time of the year may cause SAD. The Bodi-Tek SAD Light is a medically certified light box to use when treating the symptoms of SAD, which may include: change in appetite or weight, lack of energy, diminishing sex drive, body aches or pains, low self-esteem, sleep problems, loss of memory, inability to make decisions, depression/mood swings, llack of concentration/interest.
Blue Spectrum Light
Most SAD lights produce white with a spectrum of 450 nm to 700 nm. Blue spectrum light is light in the 450 nm to 500 nm part of the spectrum.
Recent studies have indicated that SAD lights using blue spectrum light technology may be more effective at treating of the symptoms of SAD as you need less light. This makes the comparison with older light box technology confusing, as lower levels of output can be equally effective.
The Bodi-Tek SAD Light peaks at 460 nm in the blue spectrum, potentially making it more effective than those using older technology but with higher lux levels.
At source, the Bodi-Tek SAD Light produces over 10,000 lux. Placing the lamp 30c m away will provide +2500 lux – making it ideal for use on your desk or next to where you reading or working.
How to Use SAD Light
Simply position the Bodi-Tek SAD Light about 30 cm away from you, directing the light towards your face, but slightly offset. Adjust the timer and brightness to suit. (It is OK to look into the light every now and then, but do not look into the light continuously). Typically 15-60 minutes of exposure a day is sufficient for most people, however, you may use your light as often as you want.
Top Tip
- Try to co-ordinate usage with your natural biological clock, namely between 6am and 8pm
- You can obviously use the Bodi-Tek SAD Light at other times of the day, but research has shown that morning use is most beneficial
- Use the Bodi-Tek SAD LIGHT on at least five successive days at roughly the same time, you can then repeat the programme as often as you feel you need to
