Every year, spring and fall marks the release date of new fashion trends for the year are released by most fashion houses in the industry. Well, the industry for eyewear and sunwear are no different; I just spent several days in New York City viewing hundreds upon hundreds of new releases of eyeglasses and sunglasses. The trend for this year seems to be the larger and more eclectic designs. Larger and bolder plastics for both men and women are the focus for the year in question.
The most recent recession not only affected everyone’s bottom line, but it also made the eyewear fashion houses redesign their styles that reflected the downturn in the economy. For the new ladies styles, plastic frames are still the industry standard for luxury but they are no longer embedded with glitz and bling. Fun and funky is now the focus of the ladies fashion eyewear industry and the vehicle they are using to convey that message is bolder and more vibrant colors. You will also see more frames in larger sizes. New sunglasses will have a flair for the late 1980’s style with metal inlays on the frame and temple replacing the blingadge from before. Large and bulbous is the new name of the game
Fashion trends for men this year still remain much the same as last year. Bold plastic frames still remain at the top of the charts; chic geek, Clark Kent, chic nerd, Drew Carey, Weezer, retro, and old school are all the acceptable descriptive terms for this look that still dominates the mens eyewear designs for this year.
New luxury designers have arrived on the scene this year have made a big splash. Don’t start pulling out your credit card just yet. These new designers incorporate precious metals such as solid gold, platinum, buffalo horn, and sterling silver as their materials of manufacturing choices; price points can start as little as a thousand dollars and go as high as four thousand dollars.
So now, let’s recap the new spring styles. The new trends and styles for women are bold colors and larger sizes while men’s fashion remains the same as before. New women’s sunglasses are the retro nuveau from the 1980’s with bold colors. These new arrivals are slated to ship within a month or two so make an appointment with your optical professional to see what your new look can be.
