It is a sad fact that large numbers of shorter men have quite deep feelings of insecurity concerning their perceived lack of stature. This can have a bad effect on their levels of self-confidence and make them become fearful of social contact with others, and especially of meeting women who may be taller than they are.

Aside from just feeling depressed, shorter men often think about practical strategies to deal with the problem, and one that comes high on the list is the possibility of wearing higher-heeled shoes. Of course, women commonly wear high heels, but for men it is a bit of a problem area, as the choice available is not so great, plus there may be confusion about two quite different types of shoe on the market, namely platforms and elevator shoes.

The first type, called platform shoes, originated during the 1970s. These shoes have a substantially enlarged and raised sole, on top of which is attached the normal upper part of the shoe. It is quite a distinctive, non-standard look of shoe, but for some years was the height of fashion for both men and women. In recent years the style has come back in vogue for women, but it has not proved a renewed hit with men. Therefore any man choosing to wear platform shoes in order to make himself taller runs the risk of appearing unfashionable.

Elevator shoes are an entirely different kind of footwear. From the outside the elevator shoe looks like an ordinary shoe. In other words, the sole does not appear raised. The shoes are constructed in such a way that the elevation occurs inside the shoe. The wearer’s foot rests on top of a raised in the sole, which is invisible to the viewer.

Many shorter men consider this comparatively new design to be the perfect way of adding a bit of extra height without it appearing obvious to others. Elevator shoes may be found in stores, or can be obtained from many online retailers.
