For some reason, the fireplace is one location in the house that is often disregarded when it comes to decoration. Yes, you may see it decorated but mostly only during occasions like Christmas where socks are hung above it. However, there is more to the room right above the fireplace than just a space for hanging socks during the Holidays. You can actually use mirrors to turn this often-ignored spot into a focal point.
To help make the fireplace an attractive spot, hang a large mirror with a decorative frame above it. Look for one with bold frames or frames which materials match those of the fireplace’s. Some fireplaces have an outside frame made of wood. Pick a mirror with a wooden frame that will blend with it.
For a dramatic effect, hang two different mirrors of a similar size. A large mirror would be ideal so that the entire wall extending from the top of the fireplace to the ceiling is covered. If you’re after a layered effect, hang a large single mirror the same way as you would with the two different mirrors and find a smaller mirror with a decorative frame and lay it covering only a part of the larger mirror.
You can also choose to arrange five or six mirrors instead of one to create one large mirror. Arrange each of the mirrors so that the three are placed right on top of the other three. Square mirrors are ideal for this approach although you can always pick a shape of your own. Alternatively, you can also pick mirrors of different shapes and sizes to achieve this kind of look. As long as all mirrors have a common design, the result will always be fantastic.
Try to achieve a more interesting look by using secondary items to accompany the main mirror on top of the fireplace. These items may come in the form of smaller mirrors of different heights or other household accessories such as stainless decorative plates and frames. Any of these would work as long as they have a common trait. The main mirror should be large enough to cover the entire wall. Beneath it, arrange the secondary items according to your preferences.
If you want to play it safe, always consider choosing mirrors that have the same design or material as your fireplace. However, you can always use your imagination to come up with a unique look. It’s all up to you as long as you know that your fireplace will no longer be lonely again.
