Every elite athlete gets depressed after stepping away from the sport they love. As a man, what is the best way to deal with depression after a major loss in life? How do you maintain your confidence as an athlete and/or businessman? How do you deal with failure and rejection in life? How do you find a path fueled by drive and passion? Why are men external validation junkies? How do you manage your competitiveness? How do you keep your competitiveness from negatively impacting your romantic relationship? What are some mental tools you can use to relax into the zone, as an athlete?
I was thrilled to put this interview with professional baseball player, Christian Lopez on tape. Christian is an evolved caveman – one who inspires me. He came up through a hyper masculine upbringing – growing up in a Latin culture, playing baseball through high school, getting drafted out of high school into professional baseball and playing baseball professionally for ten years. After, leaving baseball, Christian experienced a crushing depression. He was forced, at that point, to take a long look at himself. He shares what he found, in this interview.
Bio:
Christian is a former professional baseball player turned motivational speaker and men’s confidence coach. After his baseball career came to an end, he felt lost, without an identity or a purpose. For years he felt like a failure and like he wasn’t good enough, he was scared to take the next step in his life for fear of going through another heartbreaking failure. He felt paralyzed by fear and unworthiness. In 2017, after an honest, heartfelt conversation with a friend, he decided to begin making some changes and taking some positive steps in his life. One of those steps was going deep within himself to battle those fears, doubts and insecurities that he had kept buried for so long, but were wreaking havoc on his life. In the process, he ventured into the worlds of public speaking and life coaching, two areas that he never thought he’d find himself in, but two areas where he felt called to and really began to flourish in. Now, he’s on a mission to help men everywhere break free of the shame of those struggles, regain that confidence in themselves, and help them live a happy, fulfilling life they can be proud of.
