In order for DJs to mix in records, give people time to get to the dance floor when they heard their song start and have a longer time to dance the 12″ single was invented. Unfortunately this common sense idea never really carried across to the Video clip; the 3 or 4 minute clip was it.

At the Xchange we set out to change all that in 1986 by extending and remixing video clips using the 12″ singles we were hearing in the clubs and the radio length video clips.

Often the clip would be released well before extended and remixed versions were made available. So we had to come up with our own extended mixes.

This clip is a good example. Murder On The Dance floor was huge but we only had the short clip. So we Xtended and remixed the audio and video to create a version you could dance too and give DJ’s space to mix in and out.

Many times you never heard the actual start or end of an Xtended clip because the DJ would be mixing in or out of another song. So in these posts you will see the full versions of Xchange Clips from start to finish. Enjoy!
