Second attempt/draft. Made in response to the call for video essays from the Screening of Age brief. This is a desktop/iPhone hybrid attempt to share some of the memories and the impact of watching the first televised broadcast of The Omen (d. Richard Donner, 1976) with my Grandmother in 1981.
“Inspired by the acclaimed Once Upon a Screen series of video essays produced in 2020
and the work of researcher in residence Kevin B. Lee, this open call seeks video essays and
desktop documentaries exploring formative childhood memories related to film or other
audiovisual media. The video essay or desktop documentary should concentrate on a
single childhood memory related to a movie, TV show or other audiovisual work. It should
not only reflect on that viewing experience but also connect to a larger cultural or social
context. The experience should reflect a new understanding of the world, in the true fashion
of a “coming of age” story.”
