In the second of our videos on the thesis projects by our graduating Class of 2021, the Chair of our Fashion Design department Christopher Fink talks to Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. Cherif Amor about the BFA+MFA 2021 exhibition, the convergence of academia and business, building a fashion ecosystem, Qatar building a creative economy, and the importance of partnerships between academia and business.

“This is a phenomenal exhibition, something which I am personally very proud of for everybody who has been involved,” Christopher explains. “It could only have happened as a result of collaboration. Part of the key element for me coming in as Chair of the Fashion department is to create these collaborations with the community – to really engage our department in a very meaningful and significant way with our community. This particular project did exactly that.”

The video shows the amazing designs by the Fashion Design graduates from the Class of 2021, which includes luxury handbags, evening wear, an age-neutral collection and so much more.

Other posts in the series will highlight aspects of works by some of the graduates. This year, we also invited world-renowned curators to sift through their work for the annual BFA+MFA exhibition, so that we could bring you the best. The guest curator for the Fashion Design section of the BFA+MFA 2021 exhibition is Belgian-Argentinian fashion designer Juan Hernandez Daels.

You can also go on a 360° virtual tour of the exhibition on our Gallery website, which you can find by clicking on this link https://gallery.qatar.vcu.edu/the-2021-bfa-mfa-exhibition/
