Truth Serum Presents: WHO’S COUNTING?! Birthday Hangout / Show 2021.02.10 (this was done in Zoom)

Welcome! What is this? In the past, especially birthdays, I (Truth Serum / http://www.truthserum.org ) have had performances whether it was TraniWreck, concerts, mixed events. Other times it was a gathering at houses with performances/music. Since I have been freaking out about the pandemic x2, I decided (it was short notice!) to try using Zoom to stay home/somewhat sane.

I want to recognize that in Boston we are on the territory of the Massachusett tribal nation. I also want to acknowledge that February is Black History Month, an observance that originated as a celebration of Black Achievement so often overlooked by white supremacy. These are two important realities amongst many we must keep in mind.

here are the performers in order. please support them!

“The Shock Of Gary Fisher” is an ode to Black gay poet and essayist Gary Fisher (1961-1994) who was first published in the 1996 collection “Gary In Your Pocket: Stories and Notebooks” (Duke University Press).

The clip (released in April 2020) was created by 1970s video art legend John Sanborn. The footage of Juba and Judge “Dutchboy” Muscat (of Rainbow Flava) was shot on iPhones and sent to Sanborn for contextualization in the video. COMMANDO’s first full-length album will be released in June 2021.
