BIOGRAPHY OF THE DIRECTOR
JANINA GACOSTA
Janina Gacosta is a Filipina writer & filmmaker with experience in TV and narrative short films. At present, she is taking up her Master’s degree in film at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. She is currently working as a soap opera writer for a TV network. In 2019, she won Best Director for her short film, “The Broken Vinyl Record” at the CineSpectra Short Film Festival in the Philippines. Her debut short film will have its first international screening at the Brussels Pink Screens Festival 2020.
CHESKA MARFORI
Being born and raised in the province of Liliw, Laguna, it’s a real disappointment for a catholic family to have a lesbian daughter. So this repression and pain inspire her to make personal narratives about the LGBTQIA+ struggles in the country and hoping that somehow in the process, gaps and cracks might heal and questions and fears will be conquered. Cheska Marfori is a struggling filmmaker in the Philippines. Mainly because she is a woman and women in the film industry have a lesser chance to tell their stories through their own lens. She wants to have active participation in that progressing space, where female characters are not just objects, but thinking and sympathetic human beings. This is her goal as a storyteller to make narratives that humanized women, women in all shapes and forms. Marfori became part of Jun Robles Lana Screenwriting Lab in 2015 where she took the courage to write a screenplay. During quarantine, she was selected as one of the participants of Ricky Lee’s Online Screenwriting Workshop and Clevermind’s Screenwriting Lab. She is currently developing her first-full length screenplay.
